Hidden Figures is the true story of African-American women who serve as human calculators during the pioneering days of aviation and aeronautics. From World War II through the golden age of NASA’s space and lunar exploration, these women courageously and fearlessly led the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (known today as NASA) as they increased airplane production and eventually helped launch the United States into space exploration.

Author Margot Lee Shetterly uses real photographs, quotes, and research to paint the true story of these pioneers who participated in some of the greatest aeronautic successes in United States history. Showing grit, courage, and perseverance, the women highlighted in this book tell the story of pioneering in a field where nothing short of perfection is acceptable.
