Description

Enjoy this free introduction to archetypes and the hero's journey. I've included two folding graphic organizers that you can use with any hero's journey. Teach archetypal symbolism with the first foldable, then extend that to the hero and create a representation of eight sections of the journey. I used it with The Odyssey, but it will work for so many others: Harry Potter, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Beowulf, Lord of the Rings,Percy Jackson, or movies that involve the hero's journey Star Wars, Black Panther, Spiderman, The Lion King, etc.

Check out this link where I assemble the project. Click here

I begin the lesson with a review of archetypal symbolism. The folding graphic organizer is a perfect way to review basic categories like colors, numbers, and characters. It will generate a great conversation with your students when you discuss examples of different types of archetypal characters and situations. I've included an answer key if you need ideas.

A more detailed analysis of the Hero's Journey will take you into the second graphic organizer. Simply cut out the double circle diagram and glue on the eight folding "textual petals" for an activity that is both engaging and informative. If you enjoyed this, check out some of my other products:
