Description

The purpose of this lab is to teach the three types of heat transfer (conduction, radiation, and convection). In this lab, we make popcorn to demonstrate these different types of heat transfer. For conduction, we use a pan. For radiation, we use a microwave. For convection, we use an air popper. After a brief explanation of the three types of radiation, the kids rotate around stations making popcorn in the three ways described. After the fun is done and the popcorn made (and eaten), the kids then identify which station used which type of heat transfer.
