Healer Of The Water Monster. Novel Study Questions. By Brian Young

As a non-Native educator, I challenged myself to read more work by First Nations and or indigenous writers. Finding "Healer Of The Water Monster" by Brian Young was a brilliant treasure that I uncovered at my local library. I could not put this book down.

Brian Young wrote a captivating story about a young Navajo boy who spends the Summer on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico with his grandmother. The adventure that follows with educate, entertain and inspire your class.

This novel study offers chapter questions that focus on the content of the story- as a lesson of literacy. It asks questions about the text. It is a novel study written by an author who is not part of the culture. I created this product with respect, in hopes that it will inspire children to read more about the cultures of the world.

I recommend you read this brilliant book, use this resource, and then connect with the Navajo community to answer questions about identity, representation and culture!!
