What educators are saying

I LOVE this book! It is beautifully done and structured so well so the students are equipped to play handchimes on their own.

Description

A best seller. A unit of study for teaching upper elementary and middle school students how to play hand bells (aka hand chimes or tone chimes). This is the process I have used for years to teach 5th - 8th graders to play. It is a step-by-step process with 7 lessons, songs to use and how to teach the lessons. It has a .pdf file of the teaching process along with 11 projectable .pdfs to use with the class. This unit is for 2 octave hand bells (G4 to G6).

It takes about a month (or 7 class periods) to move through this unit and get the kids to the place that they can play a full hand bell arrangement (not just a few notes along with a song). Then you will probably need another 1-2 months to prepare your concert songs. This is an awesome activity for a general music class of any grade, 5th-12th grade. All of the kids in my classes play (and perform) the bells, not just a select few.

If you have hand bells (or tone chimes) and want your kids to be able to perform in concert some full handbell arrangements, this unit will help you get there. I have learned through much experience that if you lay down a really good foundation of learning at the beginning of hand bells that even 5th graders will be able to pick up new music and play it together. What a treat to hear and see that! This is what my beginning handbells unit will help you do. I have taught hundreds of kids to play handbells and perform in concert.

I also have several hand bell arrangements in my store that are appropriate for this age group.
