Description

This resource includes three different writing activities to use in the weeks prior to Halloween! They require no prep, just printing and would work great for use during reading/writing class or for early finishers, literacy centers, homework, or just when you have a few minutes here or there to have a little Halloween fun!

A digital version has been included at no additional cost. The PDF has a link that will give you access via Google Slides.

All pages have been designed to give you printing flexibility (color or ink-saving black & white).

Three multi-lined paper choices are included for each writing activity in the following sizes: primary, notebook paper, and no lines.

Premade and editable rubrics are included for the writing activities.

There are also alternate activities included for students who do not celebrate Halloween.

This resource includes the following activities:

  1. Halloween Special (How-To Writing)- Students are given a Halloween drink menu that has twelve drinks to select from. Students decide which drink they want to write a how-to piece about. They list ingredients, ways to mix or cook, and then write a how-to piece for their Halloween special drink. A rubric is included if you want to assess this writing task.
  2. Halloween Special (Persuasive Writing)-As an extension of the how-to writing, students invite friends, or Halloween monsters (whichever the case may be) to a party to sample their special drink. They have to persuade their guests why they should attend the party. A rubric is included for grading purposes.
  3. Monster Mania (Descriptive Writing)-Students are asked to design their own monster and brainstorm its characteristics. Students do a prewrite to organize their ideas and then write their descriptive piece about their monster. A rubric is included for assessment purposes.
  4. BONUS Bookmarks Included: There are four fun designs that include one alternate for students who don't celebrate Halloween.

All of these writing activities would make a great bulletin board or hallway display.
