Description

Halloween Writing Activity - Crumpled Pumpkin is a fun and collaborative classroom Halloween writing activity that is designed to ignite creativity in even the most reluctant writers. This collaborative writing exercise promises to have students eagerly reaching for their pencils as they craft their own spooky Halloween narrative story. The Crumpled Pumpkin Halloween writing method not only fosters teamwork but also ensures that this lesson will be one that your students never forget!

How the Crumpled Pumpkin Halloween Writing Activity Works:

  1. Distribute 30 pre-made worksheets, each featuring a different Halloween-inspired visual story starter, to each student. Instruct them to start writing their own narratives based on these prompts.
  2. After a predetermined amount of time, instruct the first writer to crumple their story sheet into the shape of a "pumpkin" and throw it to the front of the room.
  3. Encourage all students to gather at the front and select one of these "pumpkin" stories to continue writing from where the previous writer left off.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 twice more, introducing further creative twists to the narratives.
  5. Eventually, return the stories to their original authors. Instruct the students to engage in the essential steps of editing, revising, and crafting a final copy of their narratives!

Students always have so much fun with this, and they usually can't believe you are letting them crumple up their stories!
