What educators are saying

I bought this resource but didn't realize that you have to put it in presentation mode in order for it to work. It's a little hard to do that and use DESMOS at the same time. But it's a great resource if your students use physical calculators.
It was pretty easy for my 9th graders, but that's kind of what I was looking for! It was lots of fun and we all loved it.

Description

Students will love this engaging practice activity for 2 step equations. They must try to escape a haunted house! This activity is no prep, and students get instant feedback! It's included in Google Slides and PowerPoint versions.

They are given 14 problems to solve, choosing from 3 possible answers for each one. If they solve correctly, they will choose the correct door and avoid the scary giant spiders! If they make a mistake, a spider appears, and they are prompted to try again.

Problems include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with integers. Students can use the distributive property for some equations (or simply use inverse operations). All solutions are integers.

This is self-checking practice. Students will not turn in any work, and you will not need to grade anything. They will know as they work if they are answering correctly.

Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. For example: If a woman making $25 an hour gets a 10% raise, she will make an additional 1/10 of her salary an hour, or $2.50, for a new salary of $27.50. If you want to place a towel bar 9 3/4 inches long in the center of a door that is 27 1/2 inches wide, you will need to place the bar about 9 inches from each edge; this estimate can be used as a check on the exact computation.
