Description

This could be used in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. Each activity can be adjusted for different levels of writers.

This product took me about 4 years to put together. In our school we are doing so many different things while teaching writing. Writing was the hardest thing to get my kiddos to do (the reluctant writers that is.) The following product was created to help teachers teach students to creatively write through fun and engaging lessons and activities. Most activities include a LESSON explanation for teachers along with student work pages/activities. Here are the following writing subjects/lessons covered and pages included: *******************************************************

*Creative Writing Journal Covers (full and 1/2 sheets)

*Lesson: Look and think activity. Comes with teacher directions, color and black and white look and think cards. This activity is used to "spark" a students imagination and get them to use all of their senses to be creative in their writing.

*Lesson : "Boring" Sentence Starters: Writing activity that gets students adding on to boring sentences. Sentence Strips. Journal activity.

*Lesson : Half a Conversation: Lesson that has students get into partners and be creative. Students learn to think outside the box with their writing ideas. It gets pretty silly. 6 Different conversation starters pages to choose from.

*Lesson: Table Group Story Starters. Different story starters for each student in the group (up to 6 per table group). This activity has students starting a story and then passing it on to the next person to continue on.

Story Starters: Write and Pass 6 pages

*Draw/Write your moment activity.

*Lesson: Perspective Writing: Includes teacher directions for multiple lessons. Includes multiple writing ideas (blank copies as well for teacher/student ideas).

** the "perspectives" include brainstorming pages: A leprechaun, the dog, a cat, a pig, blank. Also includes Perspective final draft writing pages.

*Lesson : The Day the Crayons Quit: another lesson on perspective and letter writing.

Includes journal cover, writing a letter page (from the perspective of the crayon,

and master copy for an example.

*Lesson: Opinion writing: Fact VS Opinion: Teaching the difference and how to write an opinion paper with support. This lesson activity includes anchor chart activities, opinion writing journal pages for students (full and 1/2 sheet copies) , anchor chart printable labels for the teacher, opinion statement journal strips (14 different statements).

*Lesson : 6 different Creative writing story starters. Brainstorm silly story page, pre write pages and a final draft writing page.

*Lesson : Creative Writing Flag: All about me flag activity.

*Lesson : All about me writing brainstorm activity. This will lead to the same type of lesson that is an all about the IMAGINARY me activity. Both include a brainstorm and final draft writing page.

*Lesson : Small vs Big Moments writing activities.

This lesson includes ideas to teach Small moments and pulling details out of small moments in a student's life. The same activity can be done for one Big moment. These both include brainstorm writing and final draft writing.

*Lesson : The Interview: Students work together in partners for this activity. Students conduct a short interview based on questions given to them that they will ask a partner. There are 3 pages of pre written questions and one blank page for older writers. These will be used to write a story about the person they interviewed. There are two writing activities to go with this. One is writing facts about the person they interviewed and the second is a fantasy based writing activity. Students will use the facts given to them, to write a silly fantasy based story.

*Lesson : Creative writing: Strange Questions and answers activity. Students (again) can partner up for the beginning of this activity. There is a teacher page to explain this activity in detail. Students will be using the partner activity page answers to write a creative story about an alien. Their partner responses will be the catalyst for their creative writing.

*Lesson : Comic Style Writing: Students will practice writing short/silly comic strips. Comic story starters and blank pages are included.
