HOLOCAUST SHORT STORY (A LETTER FROM AUSCHWITZ)

“A Letter From Auschwitz” is written from the perspective of a young teenage girl named Renata. She is an inmate of the most nefarious of all Nazi death camps, Auschwitz. Renata has written a letter, the content of which reveals what has happened to her and her family. The letter is her cry for help, as well as a warning to the rest of the world about what is happening to Europe’s Jews.

NOTE I have included two copies of "A Letter From Auschwitz". One copy is written in a plain font and might be easier for your students to read.

The story is an excellent hook, an ideal tool to stir up interest before teaching students about WWII, or the Holocaust. A Letter From Auschwitz can also be used as a writing example. Students can use the information that they have learned about the Holocaust and compose their own letter. They can be anyone they want, a prisoner of war, a gypsy, communist, Jehovah witness and so on.

I have included a few educational websites and some excellent Youtube videos as well. Also, the last video clip is an anti bullying message that uses the Holocaust to teach a lesson. Most schools implement an anti bullying campaign and this is a great resource.
