Description

History knowledge organizers are the easiest, yet most creative way of assessing the knowledge of your students at different points in their learning journey. This knowledge organizer provides a color and black and white version of the same worksheet. This allows students to record their knowledge of the features of the Victorian Period within British History in their own style, as well as listing and explaining a whole range of elements from the study unit - showing their current knowledge, exploring gaps in the learning and ensuring that misconceptions are addressed and developed with greater accuracy.

This will support learning in the study unit of the Victorian Study Unit. Key Language elements include:

  • Queen Victoria and Prince Albert
  • Age of Steam
  • Great Exhibition
  • Industrial Revolution
  • Workhouses and Factories
  • Slums
  • Inventions and Innovations
  • Isambard Kingdom Brunel
  • Electricity
  • 1870 Compulsory Schooling
  • Penny Black
  • Christmas Celebrations

Also included on the same worksheet are the key monarchs and their dates of reign from Queen Victoria to Charles III for your students to record their achievements. We have also included the social pyramid of society during the Victorian Period - providing examples of people who would belong to each of the four levels of society.

In our classes, we use knowledge organizers at different points in the learning journey:

  • Before we start a topic to identify what the students have remembered or already know from prior learning, and therefore enhance our teaching plans as a result
  • During the teaching following a specific skill or knowledge point to assess whether the students have understood the key historical concept, or whether there are misconceptions - which we can then address in the next session before moving on
  • At the end of the session as an assessment piece, where students work around the Knowledge Organizer to share what they have learnt throughout the topic. They can choose to add illustrations, diagrams, word art, color - whatever helps them to embed the learning and enjoy the assessment process.

We love using knowledge organizers throughout the history curriculum. They are quick and easy to use, and effective to support focused teaching and share the learning that has taken place. Provided in both color and black and white versions for ease of copying and reproducing.
