HACKS Scientific Method

One effective strategy for answering questions about the scientific method involves breaking down the process into its key components and demonstrating a clear understanding of each. This document is a quick reference that simplifies the entire process, from the testable scientific question to hypothesis formation, followed by experimental design, data collection, and analysis.

I originally developed this cheat sheet for an ICT science elective class, and not only has it proven very successful for struggling students it is a quick resource for AP-level courses. This document takes the guessing out of the scientific method. Through the use of two colors, this document guides students through the scientific method, from a testable cause/effect question to explaining the relationship. This document can be printed in color, laminated, and given to students at the beginning of the year.

By addressing the key elements of each step, this document can provide students an effective scaffold for tackling the scientific method.
