Description

This interactive lab for middle school and high school students teaches students how to create a correct hypothesis, prove or disprove the hypothesis using the scientific method, correct use of lab tools like graduated cylinders, triple beam balances, how to calculate density, and how to read and understand data charts. The lab uses the properties of gummy bears to teach these Key concepts. This lab can be used in its entirety over four class periods or can be broken into four separate smaller labs. Six pages of teacher resources are included with tips on materials, two engage pieces for introducing the lab, and four extensions adding writing, additional math, and reading. This lab is aligned with Texas TEKS 6.3 A-E, 7.2 A-E, 8.2 A-E, and 8.4 A-B. Although aligned with Texas State standards this lab will be a great resource for any curriculum that includes hypothesis creation, use of lab tools, reading charts and graphs, calculating density etc. Approximately four to six class periods in length.
