What educators are saying

I have both the guitar and piano research project as I teach a class that is piano and guitar. It works well as a class activity and presentation. Students enjoy it and we all learn a little something.

Description

Looking for a way to incorporate independent work into your music appreciation or guitar class? These research projects ask students to create presentations about well-known guitar composers, guitarists, and lesser known string instruments. They add rigor to the curriculum and complement musical training. They are great for distance learning, helpful if students are not able to play guitar, and easy to use as sub plans that keep students learning while you are absent. This is ideal for middle or high school music classes.

What’s Included:

Three separate research projects that feature:

-guitar composers

-guitarists

-lesser known string instruments

These research projects ask students to create presentations about well-known composers for guitar, famous guitarists, and lesser known string instruments.

HOW TO USE:

There are several possible research topics for the students. If a student wants to do something that is not listed, teacher approval before they start researching is recommended. You can type directly on the rubric for assigning points and writing feedback.

You can utilize a variety of formats for the research projects. Students can use a multimedia format (e.g. PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi), video (e.g. FlipGrid, MovieMaker), research paper (e.g. MS Word, Google Doc), or create a poster (for in person). Students who submit a paper-based presentation are asked to play an audio sample related to the topic during class because the tech options can embed an audio file.
