Groundhog Day Reading Comprehension!

Your students will learn all about the history of Groundhog Day! This reading comprehension activity is full of history, trivia, and fun tidbits about this unique local custom. Students will have so much fun with this interesting and high-interest article! They will learn all about the history of Groundhog Day including how it got started, important founders, modern day statistics and so much more. The story behind Groundhog Day is a unique one dating all the way back to the 18th century. Students will have fun exploring the story behind the popular tradition while engaging in a variety of reading skills. This resource includes:

  • A two page informational text
  • 9 multiple choice questions, all Common-Core aligned and designed to promote critical, high-level thinking
  • Answer key
  • A bonus choice board! Students can select from 9 performance tasks to show their thinking in a fun, creative, and educational way
  • Google Doc link and PDF!
  • Written for students in grades 7-8
