Groundhog Day

Groundhog Day offers limitless possibilities for science, research exposure and literacy. My kindergarten kids love learning about the “groundhog myth” and singing the “Groundhog song” as they pretend to be little groundhogs.

Each child predicts the outcome (shadow or no shadow) prior to February 2. On Groundhog Day we learn Punxsutawney’s prediction and discuss the outcome.

This item consists of a groundhog puppet and his burrow in black and white and color. The kids love making this simple craft and taking it home to show mom and dad. On the back is a cute poem that the kids recite and read.

There is an adorable song that we sing with the tune: “I’m a Little Teapot,” to go along with the Groundhog theme. The song is on an illustrated poster, 8.5” by 11”, on a classroom book in color, and on half-page student booklets, for students to color, read, and take home.

I’m very excited to share this product with you and your little ones! Although I’ve used these items for many years, I wrote new poems and included new illustrations. I hope you enjoy these activities as much as my kids!
