Description

Keep your students engaged during the month of December with this Christmas craftivity that focuses on Greek and Latin roots! This engaging activity puts a fun holiday-themed spin on learning or reviewing Greek and Latin roots! This resource features four worksheets in all: two worksheets focus on Greek roots and the other two worksheets focus on Latin roots. The finished products make a unique holiday bulletin board or fun school hallway display!

Students will follow these steps to complete this craftivity project:

  • Students complete the Latin Root and/or the Greek Root worksheets. They write the meaning of the root on the same light bulb. Then they write two example words containing that root on the light bulb directly below.
  • Once the worksheets are complete, students begin to assemble their holiday house. This product includes detailed instructions (with photos) for your students to follow. It also includes a teacher note page with a few suggestions for the teacher to consider to make the project run smoothly.

Each teacher will decide whether they want their students to assemble the Latin Roots' lights/house, the Greek Roots' lights/house, OR BOTH! (If you choose to do both, students can simply turn over the first house they assembled, and create the second house on the back of the same paper!)

I have also included a blank page of lights for teachers who want to personalize this project based on the Greek and Latin roots you have taught your students!

This resource also includes a TPT DIGITAL EASEL VERSION-

This is a paperless version that can be completed on a device. It contains 12 slides.

  • Slides 1-3 introduce the activity and provide directions.
  • Slides 4-7 feature the first activity for students to complete. The objective is to turn on the string of Christmas lights. Students read the root listed on each unlit bulb. Then, they find the colored bulbs that list the meaning of each root. When they find a definition that matches the root, they move that bulb so that it covers the unlit bulb.
  • On slides 8-12, a word is written on each unlit bulb. Students must find the colored bulb that lists the meaning of Greek or Latin root in each word.
