What educators are saying

My students had fun working on this project. It was easy to follow and saved me a lot of preparation time.
My students absolutely loved this project! It was the perfect way to end the unit on the Greek Gods & Goddesses. If I teach this class again, I will definitely be using this resource again (and again). Ǧiáxsix̌a!

Description

Rock your Greek Mythology unit with student-created music videos based on Greek gods and goddesses! This dynamic mythology project uses digital storytelling to showcase a Greek god or goddess - from Zeus to Athena! Use this research project for a perfect supplement to Homer's The Odyssey or enhance your Greek Mythology Unit.

Do you struggle with your students not completing research projects or writing essays? This won't be an issue with this mythology project!

Students will be instantly engaged and motivated once they view the project example based on the Goddess Athena! They'll love designing rocking music videos instead of creating slides presentations or writing traditonal essays!

✅ Greek Mythology Research Project Description

Students will select a Greek god, goddess, or mythological figure and conduct effective internet research. A list of topics, website links, and a note-taking handout are all provided. Implementation for the teacher is easy!

Students will engage in an inquiry-based research process. The digital note-taking chart contains guiding prompts and questions for students to answer!

All of the students' materials have added structure and clear directions to encourage them to work independently and to stay on task!

The Benefits of Using Digital Storytelling in the Classroom

Digital storytelling facilitates higher levels of learning and the use of both critical and creative thinking skills. Students must analyze key character traits of their chosen Greek gods and goddesses in order to locate representative symbolic images. The symbolic images will be included in their music videos!

It's impossible to plagiarize during the research process! Students will be limited to the amount of text that can be used in their videos. They'll learn how to extract the most important information and to synthesize details from multiple sources. No more copying and pasting from one website!

✅ Technology Requirements

Animoto is a free website. Students just need access to Google Chrome! Videos can be created using any device.

A how-to tutorial created in Google Slides provides step-by-step directions on signing up for a free Animoto account and creating a music video on Animoto's website.

This mythology research project lasts 3-4 days, pairs perfectly with The Odyssey by Homer, and enhances any Greek Mythology Unit!

The Greek Mythology Unit Project includes:

  • Student Research Packet with project introduction, topic list, and research links
  • Mythology Note-taking Handout with research prompts relevant for all Greek gods and goddesses
  • Image Analysis Student Worksheet
  • Google Slides Tutorial: How To Create an Animoto Video with step-by-step directions
  • Editable Mythology Research Project Grading Rubric
