What educators are saying

So many great choices and the kids had a hard time choosing which one they preferred! I used this as an end of unit assessment, versus a test. Great resource!
My students loved having the chance to choose their own projects to show their understanding of the mythology that we read.

Description

This product is a co-labor-ation brought to you by Jen Jones and Michele Oates. Michele is a Gifted and Talented teacher.

Are you looking for ways to keep students learning at higher levels even while you're busy at Guided Reading? Or do you have students in need on constant enrichment? Michele and I have created 12 independent activities for higher level thinking while teaching Greek Mythology because *we* are always looking for meaningful and relevant ways to keep students engaged in purposeful higher order activities while we are busy doing guided reading and/or reading conferences. We use these activities in our literacy block which is a science and social studies integrated block, but you are free to use them at any point in your day that works best for you. They can be done during Reading Workshop, Research Workshop and/or during your Social Studies block. Give students the Activity Board and let them go. All activities are specific to the life and times of gods and goddesses' of greek mythology. Students love “doing” so these activities require them to not just read, write or research but gives them the opportunity to make, create, build and do based on their reading, writing and research! Some of the activities include creating your god's playlist, a wanted poster for your god, your god's report card, an invention, postcards, podcasts, articles and maps and more (full directions upon download). All activities can be created without technology but 6 of them have a technology/web 2.0 option included.

These activities were designed to compliment the 4th grade common core ELA standards on greek mythology (this product is not the greek mythology unit itself but 12 independent activities for your students to do during or after your greek mythology unit) but they could certainly be used at other grades and in other units.

This product is for single-classroom use.

We are in the process of creating these for the American Revolution, Immigration, Weather and Native Americans. If you have specific units you'd like us to create independent activities for, please leave a comment and we will consider it.

Thank you,
Jen & Michele
