What educators are saying

This was a wonderful resource to teaching coordinate graphing. I used it as more of a mini lesson in conjunction with our normal curriculum.
This was awesome for my students! There is a lot of independent practice, which is what I was really struggling with.

What are teachers saying about these “Quadrant 1 Coordinate Plane Notes”?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ”This was an excellent resource to use while teaching the coordinate grid with my students.  I loved the teacher tips. The students were engaged during this lesson!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Great mix of question types and multiple pages to differentiate practice as needed.  Very clean presentation!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ”I am so glad that I found this resource to help supplement our math curriculum. It aligned with our curriculum nicely and helped the students understand the content.”

How can I use this “Graphing Ordered Pairs on a Coordinate Plane” Packet?

  • Supplement your core curriculum
  • Reteach or remediation unit
  • Small group math intervention
  • Tutoring or homeschool
  • Test-prep

These “Quadrant 1 Coordinate Plane Notes” ask students to:

  • Plot points in Quadrant I when given an ordered pair
  • Give the coordinates of an existing point on a coordinate grid
  • Label the parts of the first quadrant coordinate plane- x-axis, y-axis, origin
  • Use coordinate geometry vocabulary with fluency

What does a “gradual release model” mean?

  • Sally’s lessons follow an “I Do, We Do, You Do” format.  A math concept is introduced whole group, students then practice with a partner, and finish with independent work time.  This deliberate scaffolding keeps students from feeling defeated or frustrated!
  • Sally’s packets also build slowly in difficulty.  We meet students where they are, regardless of level.  As students gain confidence, the problems get progressively harder.  Not all students will complete all problems and that is by design!
  • Each packet finishes with a “Challenge Page” for anyone who needs something extra!  Multiple pages of practice are included in every packet to avoid early finishers.

This coordinate grid packet is common core aligned to 5.G.1, which covers quadrant 1 coordinate plane. Students are introduced to coordinate geometry vocabulary like x-axis, y-axis, origin, x-coordinate, y-coordinate, and ordered pair.  The questions in this packet ask students to give the ordered pair for an existing point and name a point given an ordered pair.  The packet also includes graphing ordered pairs.

In addition, the instructional guide is jam-packed with coordinate geometry teaching hacks ("You always run before you jump!") and best practices for quadrant 1 coordinate plane graphing.  This detailed guidance is sure to make your lesson a success and leave your students begging for more!

Standards

Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., 𝘹-axis and 𝘹-coordinate, 𝘺-axis and 𝘺-coordinate).
