Grammar Geeks Explained
This is a unit I created when I was teaching through the Outschool platform all about Grammar. I have seven weeks of lessons and a project at the end. Each week learners have a video lesson and worksheet-type activities to complete to check their understanding and enforce the lesson.
Week One - I talk about what grammar is, who uses it, why it’s important, etc.
Week Two - I teach Conjunctions and Articles
Week Three - I teach parts of speech (not all of them
Week Four - I teach Semicolons
Week Five - I teach apostrophes
Week Six and Seven - I teach forms of figurative language. Because there are so many I broke them into two weeks
Week Eight - Project that I make optional for my own reasons. But I really encouraged the learners to take part.
Each video is taught using a Prezi presentation. I reference my Google Classroom in the lessons; you can let learners know to disregard and input your information. I include a screenshot of the homepage for each week’s lessons in Google Classroom. There won’t be any clickable links in the pictures, but you’ll be able to tell where I have them. One cool thing I did is I have a butterfly in different positions around the screen each week. When learners find the butterfly and click on it, it takes them to a random fun video. One week I have about how chocolate is made in the U.S. Another week I have why the McDonald’s ice cream machines are always broken. Yep, there’s logic in that lol. I’m not saying you have to do this, I’m letting you know what I did to keep the class light, fun, inviting, and keep the kids excited about something. Because let’s be real, kids are not always excited about learning - especially grammar!
The other document in this file on its own is the Project. This is optional and I spell out a lot of different ways kids can get creative. As always, you don’t have to do what I do. You can do whatever you want! Whatever is right for you, your classroom, school, and learners.
ENJOY!!
