What educators are saying

These banners are a good size and are easily read from around the classroom. Students need all the help they can get remembering punctuation. Thanks!
I loved these! I printed them out on pastel cardstock and strung them up on ribbon. The kids loved having them and every once in a while a student would ask a question about one of them. They are great to have around so that they can be absorbed by osmosis almost.

Description

Grammar Banners: Punctuation Posters! Use these decorative banners to display basic punctuating reminders (with examples) in your classroom while writing, before tests, or all year long. These full-page bunting shaped banner / poster sheets are great for those small but useful spaces above windows or bulletin boards. Just tape them to string, ribbon, or directly to the wall.

Includes 15 individual pages in black and white that can be printed onto colored paper if you wish. The same 15 pages are included with optional colored/textured backgrounds. ALSO INCLUDED, is a full-page handout listing all fifteen punctuation notes on one sheet. See the preview to look at every page that is included.

While many of these punctuation marks have multiple uses, the basics of the uses are portrayed here. Please preview the file to decide if the information is relevant to your class. These are meant to be a quick reference for young writers, not to replace the thorough teaching and practice of any of the grammar rules that these hints refer to.

NOTES INCLUDED:
1. Comma in a list
2. Comma in a compound sentence
3. Comma after introductory material
4. Commas set off extra info
5. Comma between coordinate adjectives
6. Commas in dates
7. Comma in city/state
8. Semi-colon between independent clauses
9. Semi-colon in a list
10. Colon
11. Dialogue (starting with dialogue tag)
12. Dialogue (ending with dialogue tag)
13. Apostrophe in contraction
14. Apostrophe (singular possession)
15. Apostrophe (plural possession)

The Oxford Comma: All pages containing an Oxford Comma have been doubled and include one page with and one without an Oxford comma. Since the purpose of this resource is for students to be able to look at the banners and then recreate the grammar in their own writing, I want it to be exactly as you would like to see them writing. As with any of the pages in this resource, simply choose the page you wish to use and throw away the others.
