{Grade 6} Unit 4: Space Activity Packet

The Grade 6, Unit 4: Space activity packet is designed to meet the overall and the specific expectations outlined in the Ontario 2007 Science curriculum document. This packet has been updated as of 05/03/19.

About the Packet:

This packet is designed to introduce students to what the solar system is, and the different elements of space that humans often study and explore. With this packet, students explore the components of the systems of which the earth is a part, and they also explore and discover the phenomena that result from the movement of different bodies in space. Students also investigate the characteristics of space systems, and the relationship between the earth, the sun and the moon. The final portion of this packet has students explore and assess the impact of space exploration on society and the environment.

This packet addresses the following big ideas:

• Earth is a part of a large interrelated system.
• Technological and scientific advances that enable humans to study space affect our lives.

Lessons Included in Packet:

This packet is designed to supplement your Space unit. As such, it includes 10 full-length lesson plans. The lessons that are included are as follows:

Each lesson includes a full-length, printable lesson plan that has materials that are ready to be used immediately. Each lesson also includes a description of lesson learning goals and success criteria that can be used to judge student success at the end of the lesson. Please note that there are only 7 readings included in this packet. This packet is heavily focused on inquiry activities where students develop their own wondering and research information about their wondering of a given topic.

Answer Keys:

Please note that there are no answer keys provided in this packet. Student responses are based on the information they have researched, and any information needed for the responses can be found in readings and on supplemental websites. There are no quiz or test presented in this packet. Students demonstrate their understanding in other ways.
