Description

The Grade 6 “Flight” packet is aligned with the Ontario Science curriculum expectations. This packet walks students through what flight is, how flight is possible and the forces that act upon flight. This packet addresses the following overall expectations taken from the Ontario Science curriculum:

- Assess the societal and environmental impacts of flying devices that make use of properties of air;

- Investigate ways in which flying devices make use of properties of air;

- Explain ways in which properties of air can be applied to the principles of flight and flying devices.

This packet includes 11 lessons that walk step-by-step through a lesson introduction, core learning activity and a lesson consolidation. There is also a section on the lesson plan template that walks you through the curriculum expectation addressed, the learning goal and the materials needed for the lesson. All of the worksheets and readings needed for the lessons are provided in this packet. There are 11 readings, 10 activity worksheets along with 5 experiments. There are introductory activities included in this packet to help review student knowledge throughout the unit. There is also organizers included in this packet. A mini set-up guide is included in this packet as well to help you identify which materials you need to print and how to put together the materials. A final assessment and activity is included where students make and test paper airplanes using their knowledge of the four forces of flight: lift, weight, drag, and thrust.
