Description
The Grade 6 “Biodiversity” packet is aligned with the Ontario Science curriculum expectations. This packet walks students through what biodiversity is, the importance of biodiversity and what happens when biodiversity is at risk. The following are the three overall expectations for the unit:
- Assess human impacts on biodiversity and identify ways of presenting biodiversity.
- Investigate the characteristics of living things, and classify diverse organisms according to specific characteristics.
- Demonstrate an understanding of biodiversity, its contributions to the stability of natural systems and its benefits to humans.
This packet includes 13 lessons that walk step-by-step through a lesson introduction, core learning activity and a lesson consolidation. There is also a section on the lesson plan template that walks you through the curriculum expectation addressed, the learning goal and the materials needed for the lesson. All of the worksheets and readings needed for the lessons are provided in this packet. There are 16 readings, 30 activity worksheets along with 5 research activity booklets. There are introductory activities included in this packet to help review student knowledge throughout the unit. There are also organizers included in this packet. A mini set-up guide is included in this packet as well to help you identify which materials you need to print and how to put together the materials. A final assessment is included where students use their knowledge of biodiversity to write a persuasive essay. This packet includes additional activity worksheets that can be used if there is additional time, or if students need to review what biodiversity is and the impact that we have on biodiversity.
