What educators are saying

I used this patterning unit with my Grade 4 class and they loved it!! It was easy to follow, as it had a detailed outlined on how to teach each lesson in the unit. It also provided variety for the final assessment of the unit as there was both a test or final culminating task
Worked great for my purposes, very informative and low prep! Helps keep me organized and on track! Had everything I needed.

Description

The Grade 4, Unit 2: Patterning resource is a 110-paged unit designed to meet the 2020 Ontario Mathematics curriculum expectations for the Algebra strand. This unit focuses on repeating and growing patterns and having students predict, extend, and create patterns that grow and patterns that repeat. Please note that this resource does not include activities for shrinking patterns as shrinking patterns are not part of the curriculum for Grade 4. Students are also asked to represent patterns using a piece of graph paper (or the graph template). Patterns are not given to students in graph form due to the difficulty of telling how the pattern is growing with larger numbers. Please note this is a printable resource. There is NO Google Slide component to this resource.

Wonderland Math is a math unit series designed to meet the Ontario 2020 Mathematics curriculum. Each unit features between 8 – 12 lessons. Wonderland Math is hands-on and encourages students to think critically about concepts related to math, such as addition, subtraction, number sense, etc. Let’s take a look at what the Grade 4, Unit 2: Patterning resource includes.

The Grade 4, Unit 2: Patterning resource provides lessons, activities, assessments, and hands-on practice for the following:

  • Identify repeating and growing patterns, including patterns found in real-life contexts
  • Describe repeating and growing patterns, including patterns found in real-life contexts
  • Create repeating and growing patterns using various representations, including table of values and graphs
  • Translate repeating and growing patterns using various representations, including tables of values and graphs
  • Determine pattern rules
  • Use pattern rules to extend patterns, make and justify predictions, and identify missing elements in repeating and growing patterns
  • Create and describe patterns to illustrate relationships among whole numbers and decimal tenths
