What educators are saying

Excellent resource, helps to break the concepts down into manageable bite sided pieces. Easy to use in class.
Used this resource with my grade twos and threes to introduce linear measurement to them. I loved the posters and math chats that could be printed and used in the class. Students enjoyed the activities. Arlene

Description

The Grade 3, Unit 7: Linear Measurement resource is a supplemental resource designed to meet the specific expectations for linear measurement outlined in the 2020 Ontario Mathematics curriculum expectations. This resource features full-length lesson plans, activities, problem-solving activities, and assessments that you can use to supplement your unit on linear measurement.

Specific Expectations Addressed:

The specific expectations that this resource aligns with are as follows:

  • E2.1 Use appropriate units of length to estimate, measure, and compare the perimeters of polygons and curved shapes, and construct polygons with a given perimeter
  • E2.2 Explain the relationships between millimetres, centimetres, metres, and kilometres as metric units of length, and use benchmarks for these units to estimate lengths
  • E2.5 Use various units of different sizes to measure the same attribute of a given item and demonstrate that even though using different-sized units produces a different count, the size of the attribute remains the same.

Introduction to Perimeter:

Students are also introduced to perimeter. Students will be exploring perimeter further in Grade 3, Unit 14: Area and Perimeter. There are three lessons that have students explore perimeter in this resource.
