Description
The "Movement and Simple Machines" activity packet is designed to meet the Ontario Grade 2 Science specific expectations. This packet deals with movement, position language and simple machines. The six simple machines discussed in this packet are: wheels and axles, levers, pulleys, wedges, inclined planes and screws. This packet is divided into four sections. The four sections are as follows:
What overall expectations does this packet address?
- Assess the impact on society and the environment of simple machines and mechanisms;
- Investigate mechanisms that include simple machines and enable movement;
- Demonstrate an understanding of movement and ways in which simple machines help to move objects.
What big ideas does this packet address?
- Movement is a change in position of an object;
- Simple machines help objects to move;
- Mechanisms are made up of one or more simple machines;
- Simple machines and mechanisms make life easier and/or more enjoyable for humans;
What lessons does this packet include?
This packet contains 10 lessons. The lessons address each of the big ideas and the overall expectations.
