Description

This unit is based on the outcomes for the Saskatchewan Health Curriculum, but will meet the outcome needs of Grade 2 Health dealing with thoughts, feelings and actions and how students can deal with their experiences. There are five lesson plans that include children's literature suggestions and activity suggestions for students. There is also a word wall for feelings and a checklist of I Can Statements for this unit.

Outcomes covered:

Outcome USC2.1:

a. Demonstrate a basic understanding of how thoughts, feelings and actions influence health and well-being

Develop a common understanding and use of respectful language to talk about thoughts, feelings and actions (emotions, ideas, behaviours, choices, reactions, control)

Examine daily habits/routines that are healthy/unhealthy (eating breakfast/skipping breakfast, recycling/littering)

Investigate and illustrate how particular thoughts (I can’t do…, I am good at) make one feel)

Examine various ways to appropriately share thoughts, feelings and actions

Provide examples of how one can help others understand self by sharing thoughts, feelings and actions

Discuss the basic “cause-effect” relationship among thoughts, feelings and actions (If I think I am smart, I will try to learn; If I think I am dumb, I will give up before I even try)

Determine the people are responsible for thoughts, feelings and actions
