Description

This Smart Notebook file addresses second grade common core Measurement and Data standards 1-10. It displays standards in student-friendly Century Gothic font to frame the learning and provide a visual anchor.

Each page lists standards within a cluster, since these standards are often addressed by similar strategies, games and assessments. For ease of use, each page is titled by the cluster it addresses (for example, 'Understand place value,' for 2.NBT.1-4). Please note, the thumbnail has the same design, but obviously lists Operations and Algebraic Thinking Standards.

It's designed for 4 differentiated instructional groupings, simply type in student's names to personalize. Template also provides a space for strategies, games and assessments around the standard so that you may create a long term record, strengthening student's schema for this standard.

This has been a critical resource for my own second grade classroom, I use it nearly every day. It easily allows for gradual release of responsibility as I use a star to indicate groups working with me, and then send them off to work in partners before a final check in when they are able to work independently. It also facilitates differentiation as each group works on similar assignments but with varied levels of difficulty (ie. double or triple digits). Keep your groups flexible by changing groups as your give formative assessments. For example, I might collect an addition quick check, sort into 4 piles (1- not meeting standard - pink, 2 - working towards standard - orange, 3 - meeting standard - green, 4 - exceeding standard - blue) and then update groups to reflect student performance.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Measure the length of an object by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes.
Measure the length of an object twice, using length units of different lengths for the two measurements; describe how the two measurements relate to the size of the unit chosen.
Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving lengths that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as drawings of rulers) and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
