Description

Here is a professionally written, well crafted, tried and tested math lesson plan. This lesson plan is based on the First Grade/ 1st Grade "Go Math" textbook, Chapter 1 - lesson 1.1, which is titled "Use Pictures to Add to."

I have also included a bonus EASEL pre chapter assessment. You can use it instead of the "show what you know" section of the chapter.

Common core standards covered in this lesson are: standard —1.OA.A.1 and also 1.OA.D.7. Additionally, I have included links to a warm up video and links to the reteach and enrich worksheets. You would have to click on the link below to download the reteach and enrich freebies.

The reteach and enrich worksheets I created follow the same style of questioning used in the reteach and enrich resources provided by the Go Math publisher, Harcourt.

If you are using the Go Math textbook then it's assumed that you own the teacher resources since this is usually sold as a package to your school. In the event that you do not have access or a subscription to the ThinkCentral portal, I have added links to my own comparable resources. Just follow the links to my blog and download the sheets and answer keys for free.

As a bonus, I have included two different formats of the same lesson plan, one that is suitable for public schools in the U.S. and another that is more commonly used in private or international schools here and abroad. So just choose your preference before you print.

The Exit Tickets mentioned in this lesson plan are not included in this purchase. You would have to either create your own, or you may consider purchasing a set of exit tickets at the link provided below. Each file of Exit tickets covers all the lessons in the entire chapter. So in other words if you buy 8 lesson plans, you would only need to buy the exit ticket once or you can visit my store for a lesson plan bundle which would include all eight plans plus the exit tickets.

Chapter 1 Lessons 1 to 8 Exit tickets can be found at this link

Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
