Description

Goes with: Wood Shop Safety Bundle

Objective: Students will be evaluated on their knowledge and their application of safety both in the classroom and in the wood shop. Mastering these rules and concepts with a 90% or better is essential for participation in future wood shop projects.

Qualifications: Teaching wood shop is not for everyone. Teachers should have an Agriculture Credential or some equivalent legal certification order to teach a shop class.

Please Read Before You Purchase:

  • Students must pass with a 90% or better in order to continue with participating in the wood shop unit (A student should never pass a safety exam with 70%- scary!)
  • If students don't pass the first time, (1) print out their results (Google Forms has that option for you) (2) they need to write out their mistakes with the correct answers (3) submit it to the educator for the opportunity to retake the test.
  • If they still don't pass it's up to the educator in what they would like to do. Our program is on a semester rotation. Therefore, I inform students that if they still don't pass the second time around they are in charge of "finishing" the projects (hand-sanding, painting, staining) until the end of the semester.
  • Educators should keep a binder of hard copy exams that have received a 90% or better. If a student has an accident in the shop, due to student negligence, this information will be crucial for mitigating legal issues.
  • If students have an IEP/504, have them work with their assigned educator on completing the exam. Make sure to document that an accommodation /modification had been made and make sure a parent signs off on it with the date.
  • In order to protect yourself, your school, and your credential, I can't stress enough the importance of students NOT being allowed to participate until they have passed the exam.
