Description

Do you want your students to take more ownership of their grades and progress? Do you wish that they had a way to chart their growth and reflect on how they are working towards mastery of second grade skills?

Try this goal-getters workbook!

What is the Goal Getters Workbook?

I designed this workbook for my own second graders to use in January-May of the school year. This can be used earlier than the second semester, but it is fitting to set goals after half of second grade is under their belts and they know what they are struggling with and what comes easily to them!

This workbook walks students through the process of setting goals, tracking them, and reflecting on the progress they are making.

The pages included are:

  • A color and black and white cover with a line for writing the students' names
  • Reading and Math goal boards. 2nd grade skills are written in boxes, and students color in the skills they have already mastered so they can see what they are still working on.
  • Goal brainstorming page
  • Goal Mapping
  • Data tracking graph pages
  • Goal reflection journaling page
  • Mid-Semester and Mid-Quarter check ins
  • Book tracking page
  • Reading and Math fluency trackers
  • Letter to myself page
  • Letter from the teacher page

How do I use this resource?

  1. Begin with the goal boards. Guide students on skills they have already demonstrated mastery in. Have them color in those boxes.
  2. Using boxes that are left blank, students brainstorm goals they want to meet before the year is over.
  3. Track progress towards meeting those goals by graphing data. Many subject area graphs and trackers are included. Pick and choose the ones that you want your students to use!
  4. Reflect on goals and change goals with the reflection journal pages!
  5. Have students write a letter to themselves about where they want to be at the end of the year. Collect the letters and pass them back at the end of the year so they can see how close they got!

With all of this emphasis on growth and progress, your students will see how much control they have over their grades and their own growth! You will love helping them take autonomy over their own success this year with this goal setting workbook!
