A collection of eight ready-to-use grading rubrics to fit nearly any writing or speaking assignment, including expository, persuasive, narrative, research, and literary analysis.
Every time I design a new writing assignment for my students, I have to come up with a fitting grading rubric so my students know what I expect and so I can grade the students' work objectively. Frankly, it's a pain in the behind! So I drew up a set of standard rubrics that will work for any essay to save myself some time in the future, and I thought I'd pass the time-saving on to everyone else.
Each rubric is based on a four-score grading scale.
* 4 / A / Advanced / Exceeds Expectations
* 3 / B / Proficient / Meets Expectations
* 2 / C / Basic / Below Expectations
* 1 / D / Below Basic / Fails to Meet Expectations
It only goes down to a D because I feel that the only reason students should fail or get an F on an essay is if they don't try (in other words, if they don't hand one in.) This grading scale rewards students for trying while still giving them an accurate picture of where their writing skills currently stand.
The eight rubrics included are...
* Expository Writing
* Narrative Writing
* Persuasive Writing
* Research Writing
* Literary Analysis
* Media Presentation
* Informative Speech
* Persuasive Speech
The rubrics will come as easy to print PDF files as well as MS Excel files. That way you can easily tweak one of the rubrics if you need to for a specific assignment.
