What educators are saying

My students loved this resource. They were engaged with this resource. It didn't take time to prepare for this resource, so it was easy for me to use in a time crunch. I adapted it a little bit for my students.
My classroom loved these. I printed them and laminated them so that students could write on the pages with whiteboard markers. You could easily put them in sheet protectors and reuse them that way as well. Still very good for practicing decoding.

Description

These Gingerbread themed Elkonin sound boxes are an engaging activity to develop phonemic awareness and phonics skills. It includes 40 task cards for students to segment, blend, and spell cvc words.

The task cards are perfect to use with small intervention groups to assist readers in developing their early literacy skills, while improving encoding abilities, and building their confidence in reading words.

Students will:

  1. Say the name of the picture.
  2. Segment the words into sounds by tapping one box for each sound.
  3. Place a manipulative in a box for each sound they hear.
  4. Use the letter tiles to match each sound.

This literacy center includes 40 CVC spelling cards:

  • 8 for Short A: pad, bag, jam, fan, nap, rat, cap, can
  • 8 for Short E: pen, red, web, ten, wet, bed, jet, hen
  • 8 for Short I: bin, dip, mix, pin, zip, six, fin, pig
  • 8 for Short O: box, fox, top, pot, mop, hot, log, dog
  • 8 for Short U: sun, hut, gum, jug, mud, tub, bus, rug
  • 6 enrichment worksheets
  • A version for TpT EASEL™ for virtual learning

Children will use letter tiles, magnets or erasable markers to spell each word.
