Description

As students begin to search for a job, they need application information at their fingertips as well as a straightforward template for their resume and cover letter.  We want our students to have documents on hand that are simple and professional.

In this resource, you will have three documents for your students.

  • First is a document with the typical information needed to complete a job application.  This will allow your students to quickly and easily fill out paper or online application documents.  We suggest that you have your students make a copy of this document and type their responses.  A typed and printed copy should eliminate mistakes made from trying to interpret poor handwriting.  The questions on this document are the standard ones seen on job applications.  Teach your students the importance of completing every blank on the application, even if it means they need to put N/A on questions that do not pertain to them.
  • The second document is a resume template.  We create this template to look modern, yet professional.  The arrangement allows for students to enter prior work experience if they have some, but they can also tap into experience gained from volunteer work or school organizations and clubs.  Information in [brackets] should be added by your students.  If they don’t need all of the provided space, just have them delete the areas they do not use.  Students should understand that a resume is at most 2 pages long, but ideally just a page.  For students actively involved in multiple activities, they should focus on the ones that support the job they seek.  If they are using the resume as a scholarship or award document, they may want to include more information.
  • The final document is a cover letter template.  Your students will customize the wording in this document as needed.  Again, information in [brackets] should be customized by your students.
