Description
This resource is perfect for teaching your U.S. Government students about reapportionment, redistricting, and gerrymandering. It includes a 16-slide power point (also available in Google Slides) that includes lecture notes, activity directions, and debrief questions. The resource also includes student CLOZE notes and a gerrymandering activity that will bring the topic to life for your students. The notes cover topics such as: reapportionment, redistricting, gerrymandering, important court cases and precedents, consequences of gerrymandering, etc. I have also included two video clips and student directions for the activity.
The activity will allow your students to try their hand at gerrymandering as they attempt to manipulate district boundaries for the advantage of their political party. Gerrymandering is often a difficult topic for students to grasp and this engaging activity will help them to make sense of it. The end of the power point provides some debrief questions to help students process what they just learned. This resource is great for AP® or General U.S. Government classes and is mostly editable to fit your curriculum!
