Description

George Washington art activity for classroom teachers: George Washington collaborative posters. These posters are intended to complement/supplement any Presidents' Day unit/lesson you teach. It’s a great way to start up a unit or cap one off!

These art activities are an engaging and entertaining way for students to work together to create a large poster of our first president, George Washington, that makes a great classroom focal point.

Lesson #1 George Washington Classroom Collaboration Poster: Coloring

20 pieces.

This lesson is very easy. Each student is given one section of a large mosaic poster to color in according to the instructions on each sheet. Once all sheets are colored & cut out, they are then assembled to reveal a large (28 in. x 35 in.) red, white and blue poster/mural of George Washington that captures the American colors and inspires students to reaching for their dreams.

Lesson #2: George Washington Classroom Collaboration Poster: Gridded Drawing

This lesson is not hard, but it is more challenging than the coloring version in Lesson #1. In this lesson, each student will actually draw their own grid piece using a small version of their assigned gridcell as a reference. Once the pieces are drawn and cut out, the classroom poster can be assembled. This lesson engenders a lot of cooperation among students to get all of the drawings within the individual gridcells to line up well and produce a nice looking final (28in. by 35 in.) poster of George Washington.

The results from both methods are stunning!!

BONUS: “Unscramble the Drawing” George Washington. handout

This handout is great because it allows students to each walk away with their own drawing of George Washington. It also allows students to work on a smaller, personal scale. It’s a great extension for when students finish their work early as it can be done independently. If the kids you teach are younger and don’t have the skills to actually draw the pieces, then just let them cut out the pieces and re-assemble them on the empty grid. The concept will be the same!
