    Description

Looking for multiple PowerPoint slides for a variety of Geography Skills lessons and activities? This bundle of presentations is a great way to enhance your social studies lessons!

The following PowerPoint slides are included:

    5 Themes of Geography:

This PowerPoint goes over each of the 5 Themes of Geography and gives relevant examples of each. Great pictures are included, and I've added teaching tips on the notes section of some slides for how you can use the lesson. A series of pictures is included that students use to determine the particular theme of Geography. Finally, two ideas are suggested for how students can practice their knowledge of the 5 Themes independently or in groups. The presentation is completely editable in order to meet your particular classroom needs.

    Charts and Graphs:

This 62-slide PowerPoint can be used for many different purposes such as teaching students how to read different types of charts & graphs, reviewing charts & graph skills, bell ringers/daily starters, etc. Pie charts, bar graphs, line graphs, population pyramids, climographs, cartograms, and tables are covered in the lesson. Tips for reading the charts and graphs are included, as well as several questions about each type. This PowerPoint is completely editable so you can do whatever you want with it to meet your classroom needs. Don't forget that the ability to read charts & graphs is part of the Common Core standards!

    5 Major Climate Zones:

This lesson includes a full presentation that addresses the characteristics, general locations, plants, animals, and specific location examples of the 5 major climate zones (polar, temperate, tropical, dry, highland). Students can fill out the included chart as you go over the presentation and a follow-up mapping activity puts their new knowledge of the climate zones to use. A filled out version of the chart, a blank version of the chart, and a blank map are all included. Also part of the package are a few suggestions of how to use these activities and how you can differentiate to meet the needs of the different levels of students you have in your classroom.

    Weather, Climate, and Natural Disasters:

Topics included in this PowerPoint are the differences between weather and climate, the main factors that affect climate, different types of natural disasters, and the impacts natural disasters can have on humans. Throughout the presentation, I've offered suggestions for ways you can incorporate discussion into the lesson. It includes video clips of tornadoes and hurricanes. There is also a suggested assignment on the last slide. The entire file is completely editable to meet your individual classroom needs.

Landforms, Plate Tectonics, and Human-Environment Interaction:

This PowerPoint starts out by defining the term landforms and showing pictures of more common ones such as mountains, valleys, plains, mesas, etc. It goes on to address the topics of why geographers care about landforms, how they're formed by various plate tectonic movement, and how landforms and water features can affect humans. The topics of weathering and erosion are also addressed and students practice identifying each through a series of pictures. The PowerPoint has lots of points for discussion, and I give recommendations for how teachers can keep it interactive throughout the file. It includes several pictures and even two YouTube videos to help reinforce the lesson. Everything is 100% editable to meet your classroom needs.

    Government and Economic Systems:

This PowerPoint address many topics. Six different government systems (democracy, republic, constitutional monarchy, absolute monarchy, dictatorship, communism) are explained and the slides include pictures to help students make connections. Economic systems (market and command) are also addressed, including information about the characteristics of each and how supply and demand works. Also in the presentation is the concept of how geographers divide countries into the categories of developed and developing and what characteristics they look at when making those decisions. Suggestions for class discussion are added to the notes at the bottom of many slides. This PowerPoint is completely editable to meet your classroom needs.

    Major Religions:

This PowerPoint gives a very basic overview of the world's five major religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism). I use this as a mid-year review in my class. Included for each religion is where it was founded, important people associated with the religion, groups that make up the religion, whether it's monotheistic or polytheistic, sacred writings, places of worship, holidays, pictures/icons associated with the religions, and other important information.
