My students have been struggling with identifying genres, so I was looking for resources to help reinforce the concept. This was the perfect activity for that, and it helped me ascertain the genres with which my students are still struggling.

Thank you for viewing this product! This product contains a total of 24 genre paragraph cards, 9 genre headers for sorting, a recording sheet, and an answer key.
I generally start the beginning of the year off with a genre study. I use this activity before we begin reading summaries of books in my library and placing in the correct genre bins. This is a perfect way to solidify what has been taught about genres thus far in the year.
The 9 genres I focus around in my classroom and will be found in this purchase include:
*Realistic Fiction
*Historical Fiction
*Fantasy
*Science-Fiction/Futuristic
*Poetry
*Mystery
*Traditional Literature
*Non-Fiction
*Biography/Autobiography
I also included a blank header as well as four blank paragraph cards for you to write on, in case you wanted to add a genre I didn't include in this product.
*Please note that answers are open for discussion, because often times books can fall under more than one genre.
These cards are perfect for students to complete in a center, in a small group, or for whole class discussions. Simply print, cut, and laminate! Please contact me if you should have any questions :)
