Description

Generals Risk came from an idea to have students use strategies specific to military leaders that are studied in World History class. This game builds on the Hasbro Board Game, Risk the Game of Global Domination, whose purchase is required to play Generals Risk. "Risk Game: Global Domination" is available on Amazon.com.

Before playing students should be given a crash course in regular risk rules pertaining to attacking & defending. It will take 15-20 minutes for most students to get the hang of the rules, but afterwards understand how turns work and how they should try to win. (make sure to have another activity ready for students who are knocked out of the game)

Each of the military leaders in the game have rules specific to their style of warfare. The five main characters to use that have been tested and balanced are; Hannibal Barca, Alexander the Great, Napoleon, Hitler, & Stalin. There are also 3 US generals that have not been tested as thoroughly; Patton, MacArthur, & Sherman.

Each of the characters have strengths and weaknesses that players must take into account to be successful. After a day or two of playing students are given a short assessment that requires some research.

Risk Assessment:
Which military leader did you pick?
Why did you pick this person?
Research this person’s actual battle tactics. How did they reflect the rules of the person in the game? (3+ sentences)
Were the rules appropriate for your military commander based on your research? Explain why or why not. (4+ sentences)
How well did you do in the game? Why?
How could you have played differently and performed better?
