What educators are saying

This helped me teach SOAPSTone for the first time as we concentrate on reading and writing in our social studies classroom.

Description

Get those kids moving! Both HISTORY and ENGLISH classes can use this kinesthetic activity and convenient graphic organizer to analyze an author's purpose, audience, and speaker in non-fiction, informational text, poetry, short stories, novels, and drama. Great as an assessment of comprehension for pre-class readings.

SOAPSTone requires students to think critically to identify textual evidence that supports their analysis of a text's (S)peaker, (O)ccasion, (A)udience, (P)urpose, (S)ubjects, and (T)one.

In this file:

5 -- Posters for Gallery Walk Stations: Groups place post-its to answer each section of the analysis/After 5 minutes transition to next station (NOTE: Subject was not included for classroom management purposes as it would be too quickly completed compared to the other simultaneous stations and create an opportunity for negative behavioral issues.)

1 -- SOAPSTone graphic organizer in a collegiate theme

This wonderful acronym was originally invented by the College Board for Pre-AP and AP level analysis on the AP US History, AP English Language and Composition, and AP Literature and Composition exams, but I modified it's characteristics to support my learning objectives and varied student levels as needed. I also expanded its use to include fiction.

Love it? Yay! Spread those beautiful vibes on the Feedback area below and get TpT credits!
