This unit plan covers the functions of marketing in the sports and entertainment industry for grades 7-12. The unit has students identify and understand the basic concepts and the core standards of marketing. Students will gain an understanding of basic marketing concepts and terminology as they pertain to the sports and entertainment industry. During this unit, students will learn how to connect the functions of marketing to the sports and entertainment industry.

Students will be able to:

  • Know the importance of marketing as well as the functions of marketing. 
  • Explain the marketing concept as it relates to sports and entertainment.
  • Describe each marketing function and how it relates to sports and entertainment.
  • Explain how each component of the marketing mix contributes to successful marketing.
  • Express the importance of target markets.
  • Explain the importance of market research and analysis.

This unit is infused with technology, real-world application and is designed to be engaging and rigorous. It is the perfect unit for any business class.

This unit plan is conducted through lectures, engaging activities, group-paced instruction, and discussion. Assignments range from a mix of daily assignments, time, projects graded on effort/attempt, unit tests, and a project graded on overall appearance and completion of given requirements.
