Description

In this activity students create their own poem, using Forest Fenn's poem as a model, to provide clues to a hidden treasure. Students will then give the poem to a family member, friend, or peer to try and find their treasure.

After the "hunt," students will reflect on the experience analyzing how easy or difficult their clues were and if the hunt was more satisfying than the find.

This activity can be extended by having students discuss their word choices and revise for clarity or nuance. The can repeat the activity with the revised poem and then compare the two outcomes.

For even further analysis, students can present their findings in a presentation about how word choice, connoation, nuance, and inference increased or decreased the difficulty of their their "hunt."
