Description

Fun Foam Numbers and Numbers Chats - K & 1st Grade Math, Unit 2

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

WANT AN INTERESTING WAY TO GET YOUR YOUNG LEARNERS INTERESTED IN MATH?

Enjoy this two part series! This unit is the second 9 weeks of the series!

Check out both halves of this series:

Fun Foam Numbers and Numbers Chats - K & 1st Grade Math, Unit 1

Fun Foam Numbers and Numbers Chats - K & 1st Grade Math, Unit 2

Make a set of fun foam numerals 0 - 9 for each student using the pattern on the next page. If you don’t want to use fun foam, you can run copies of the numerals and laminate them. Hands-on is great; whatever your preference!

Encourage dialogue in the form of “number chats” as you go. Children will learn different reasoning strategies as they go!

A GREAT WAY TO RAISE THEIR BENCHMARK SCORES, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY... THEY LEARN TO LOVE MATH!

► Overview ◄

Make fun foam sets of light colored blocks such as yellow, light blue, light green, white, etc. so the numbers will pop. You can also match color themes to your room.

Label fun foam numerals with a black sharpie marker. Cut them apart. Put each set of numerals into a sturdy Ziploc bag. Label each bag with student numbers. It is an easy way to track when someone forgets to return the bag.

Photo copy the blank grid on card stock or laminate for each child to position his/her numerals.

Use the attached lessons to help students review, develop mathematical calculation and reasoning skills.

These mini lessons can be completed at the beginning of each class period or during RTI to remediate or advance skills.

Enjoy a week by week script with fun hand-drawn artwork, as well as a cute poster!
