Description

Have students go around the room or work in small groups to ask if other classmates do certain activities. As the activity is set up, there are frequency adverbs in parentheses at the end that students need to correctly insert into the question. Then they write the names of classmates who responded yes. I usually just ask for third person oral response (who plays chess? - --Pierre plays chess) but you could also have students write out sentences afterward. Every question should be formed using Est-ce que or inversion. Example:

(jouer) aux échecs (parfois)

Student 1: Est-ce que tu joues parfois aux échecs?

Student 2: Oui je joue parfois aux échecs / non je ne joue pas aux échecs

But you could delete the adverbs if you would rather just use this as a treasure hunt communication activity. This typically falls near the end of my French I curriculum but can be used as a review activity to start French II.

NOTE: I cut the paper so that each student is holding four boxes. Then if they are in small groups they also have to focus on listening comprehension to understand the questions of their group members which will be different than their own.
