What educators are saying

Fantastic primary source activity to help students realize what people were going through during the troubling times. I used this for my Ethnic Studies class.

Description

Freedom Summer Primary Source Activity teaches students about the efforts to register African Americans voters in the South and the fight against them. Using common core techniques, students analyze two primary source documents from both sides of the battle. Students get a deep common core understanding of the conflict between many southern whites and southern African Americans during the civil right era. This is a perfect primary source document to add to your civil rights movement unit. It can be used in class or as homework as it’s a completely stand alone assignment. This is also perfect for substitute teacher plans, and of course, a key is included.

*Includes Google Apps version of worksheet for distance learning
