SET UP & CLASSROOM USE:

*Choose either the color or black & white version

*Choose one of the set up options below

  • A Practice Folder to reuse with all students:
    • Print all workbook pages (minus the data pages) either single sided or double sided.
    • Place in sheet protectors in a 3 pronged plastic folder (bonus points if it has a pocket for a cover).
    • Use dry-erase markers to complete any written activities and erase with tissues or paper towels.
    • Print the data pages separate to keep in your own data files.
    • Optional: print the word cards and board game, place the cards on a binder ring, and keep them with the folder.

  • A workbook for each student:
    • Print all workbook pages (minus the data pages), either single sided or double sided, for each student.
    • Bind the pages into a workbook or place them in a binder for each student.
    • Print the data pages separate to keep in your own data files, or keep in the back of the binder/book.

  • Worksheets to use as you need
    • Print individual pages to use as worksheets to cover the topics you study for that day.

**Assessments:

  • The folder starts with a pre-test and ends with a post-test.
  • Use the data page at the end to go with each test and compare the growth after the practice activities.

**Check Boxes:

There are check boxes on every page that you can use in several ways.

Partner Checks

  • Have students do the activities with a partner.
  • Partners can help correct each other’s mistakes.
  • Partner writes a check or their name in the box when the activity is complete.

Student Self-Assessment

  • Give students 2 symbol options: ✔️ or ?
  • Have them write a ✔️ if they complete the activity, double check it, and corrected any mistakes.
  • Have them write a ? if there was something they didn’t understand or got stuck on.

Teacher Check

  • If a teacher is helping the student do the activities, have the teacher check or initial the box after they finish the activity.
  • If a student is turning in a worksheet, the teacher can check or initial the completed worksheet.

RATIONALE:

To learn how to read words, you need:

Phonemic Awareness

•Be able to hear each sound in the word

•Be able to blend the sounds together to make a word

•Be able to break the word into sound parts

•Be able to analyze the sounds in the word

Phonics

•Know the sound each letter makes

•Say the sounds of each letter out loud

•Say the sounds of each letter and blend them into a word

•Look at the letters and say the whole word

Connecting Phonemic Awareness and Phonics

•Tie each sound in the word to the letter(s) that make it

Comprehension

•Read the word and understand what it means

The activities in this folder address each of the skills above, starting at a basic level and building up.
