Frank Herbert's novel Dune explores rich themes across a broad range of disciplines including environmental change, religious zealotry, the benefits and dangers of technology, man's relationship to and with nature, and far more.
These individualized research options allow the students to choose one and personalize it to investigate an area of greatest interest to themselves, engages them in meaningful and extended academic research and synthesis of ideas, and culminates in a final major research paper that must be properly cited.
Once a specific research essay topic is approved and/or assigned, a minimum of a month should be alloted for the students to conduct and finalize their work.
