Framed! A Guided STEAM Project to Display - Remote-Ready STEM / STEAM Bundle

This hands-on STEAM bundle has everything you need to guide your students as they create hauntingly mysterious art and gorgeous, faux-antique, silver frames to show them off! But this is no “cookie-cutter” project. No way. After a look into a 19th Century woman scientist who made history, your kids are guided through a science investigation to try and figure out how their SunPrints are magically made with just sunshine and water. They test variables, record observations, and develop evidence-supported claims to explain the mystery. Next, your students use math, measurement, and the iterative process to solve the engineering problem of designing a model for a frame that will fit their SunPrint or another artwork. Then, after a visually rich presentation the kids go outside to search for patterns in nature that they use to inspire their own simulated patterns they draw in their nature journal. Finally, your students put their frame models and drawn patterns to use as they engrave textures into their surprisingly-simple-to-make faux-antique silver frames, thanks to the DIY video I made for you which demo’s the process. You and the kids will be eager to display their framed SunPrints at a school exhibition and/or on a wall at home. BTW: One of my favorite frames a student ever made was a very (I’ll just say it) sloppy kiddo who (I thought) messed up his frame with his generous and exuberant use of school glue and inspired a whole new approach to the process that I now try to use when doing this faux-antiquing process. So, you’ll love the no-fail aspect of this project! The lessons standards are geared for 3rd - 6th grade, but I've adapted and used it with high-school as well as younger kids too. Includes:
